On any typical afternoon of the week, you’re certain to find a young learner driver behind the wheel, nervously trying to grasp control of what is a big moment in their life; their first driving lesson.
The driving school instructor eases and reassures the student and by the end of the lesson, all the fear has given way to excitement. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? We’ve all been there at some point our lives.
Many parents will feel stressed when soon after, their child eagerly starts to beg them to take them out driving as they cannot wait until their next driving lesson. It’s easy for a parent to give into these demands but the reality is it is not the best decision to make at this crucial point in their driving development.
Over the years, we all develop driving habits that may no longer be in line with the rules of the road. Like most habits, they’re formed slowly over the years and may even be something that at the time we picked them up, were the correct thing to do. Times change and so do the rules and regulations governing driving on our roads.
While it will be tempting to take your child out driving, you should keep in mind any possible bad habits you may have could possibly be picked up by your child and lead to a driving test failure later on. It’s important for them to build a solid foundation which a qualified driving instructor can build for them.
This also removes any fears you may have as a passenger while a learner driver is behind the wheel. A driving instructor deals with all possible scenarios on a day to day basis and is familiar with the common mistakes learner drivers make.
Of course once they have completed their driving lessons and passed their driving test, it would be suitable for you to step in and guide them along. Some parents even opt to continue with professional driving lessons just so their child understands how important it is to have a responsible attitude towards driving.
