Understanding the importance of road safety is something we should all strive to achieve as it can directly or indirectly affect ourselves and others on the road. For a learner driver, one of the best ways to gain this understanding is by attending driving school.

Driving school is a common sense approach to learning to drive. Driving instructors are qualified and understand all the rules, laws and regulations when it comes to driving. This is a great starting point for the young learner drive as it will ensure they develop sound knowledge of driving; both theory and practical.

Basic road safety begins before we even start our cars. You should check all the tires for pressure and that oil and water levels are sufficient . It’s important to make sure that your lights and signals are operating so that other drivers on the road can be made aware of your intention to turn corners or merge into another lane. For many of us experienced drivers, we can do these things in a few moments while walking to our car but for the novice driver, it’s a process they need to learn.

A learner driver should understand that capabilities of the car they’re driving. If you choose to use a driving school, the driving instructor will inform your child of this information but if you’re teaching your child, make sure you familiarise them with how your car works. Just because they’ve been a passenger in the car for many years doesn’t mean they have a firm grasp on the power your car wields.

Driver education in a driving school is very focused on eliminating distractions while driving; mobile phone use is the main offender here. The learner driver needs to understand how using a mobile phone while driving is not acceptable and that an accident can occur in a fraction of a second. Thankfully, many schools and law enforcement have taken a hard lined approach to drink driving and your child is more than likely already aware this is not acceptable but it’s still important to discuss the impact drink driving can have not only on themselves but on other people.

Finally, if your car should break down, you should put on your hazard lights so that other motorists are aware there is a problem. Discuss a plan for your child to follow if any problems should occur such as a break down and what numbers they can call for assistance if you’re registered for road side service.

Just the thought of taking your driving test conjures up feelings of fear and nervousness. It’s quite normal a range of emotions but did you know most fear is based on a lack of preparation? That’s right, and that’s why driving school is the best place to learn to drive!

For the learner driver with confidence and skill, it will assist them in passing their driving test on the first attempt. You might think it’s about luck but it’s all about being prepared for the driving test. The best way to learn to drive is by gaining instruction from a qualified driving instructor. Passing a driving test still requires practice and dedication by the learner but with the right help, you can pass it the first time.

The test is not only practical, so it’s important to study for the test. Studying for the driving test incorporates all manner of things. You want to have a sound understanding on the rules of the road and the theory of driving. In between driving lessons, you should study your learn to drive guide so you have a firm grasp on the rules of the road.

Just having a theoretical understanding of driving is not enough! It’s important to get driving practice in with your driving instructor and possibly a friend or family member you trust. Don’t fall victim to the temptation of driving with your friends at this point as learner drivers are easily distracted.

Practice all different kinds of parking. Don’t be afraid of getting into the thick of it by parking on deserted roads only as this option won’t be available to you on test day. Your driving instructor will take you through all the different ways of parking the vehicle and will reassure you if you’re making any errors.

The best part of having a driving instructor is if you make a mistake, they will point it out for you. Simply forgetting to check for on coming traffic before you start the car could lead you to failing your driving test before you even begin! This is something your mother or father might not think to alert you about.

By taking all these things into consideration, you’re giving yourself the best chance at passing your driving test.

For everyone that has a drivers license and has been to driving school, we understand the freedom that driving gives a person. It’s the first time in our lives that we can go where we want, when we want. A big secret held by most drivers is that they did not pass their driving test the first time. There are 3 major reasons why learner drivers fail the first time and if you pay attention you can learn to ace the test the first time.

The first hiccup that catches many people out is simply nerves. It’s normal to feel nervous before any test but for everyone, the driving test is the one where those feelings may take control of you. You’re out of your comfort zone and the person conducting the test is not the driving instructor you have grown to trust. You might be afraid of asking questions or generally feel unsure if you’re doing the right thing.

Don’t let the months of training go down the drain due to this. Remember, if you’ve taken your driving lessons seriously and approached it with the right attitude, you understand everything you need to know in order to pass your driving test. Ignore any doubts you may feel about your capability, your driving instructor would not have sent you for your driving test if you were not ready!

The second problem, which is quite common is lack of concentration. You may not feel nervous but how focused are you? It’s important to be in the moment and not jump too far ahead of yourself. You might be thinking about driving your friends around after the test or tired from the previous nights activities. Don’t be in a rush to pass the test, take your time and and display good judgment, this will go a long way towards passing the driving test.

The last error is something we should never make yet many people do. They forget the rules of the road. Whether due to nerves or a lack of concentration, everything they’ve learned goes out the window on driving test day. The best way to combat this is by scheduling a driving lesson right before your driving test so that you’re in the right frame of mind. Your driving instructor will also reassure you of anything you’re not clear on. This will also help clear any anxiety you might be feeling.

If you take these 3 errors into consideration, you should have everything you need to pass your driving test.
